Give It To Me

Could you speak up and stop mu-mumbling, I don’t think you came in clear

When you’re sittin’ on the top, it’s hard to hear you from way up here

I saw you tryin’ to act cute on TV, “Just let me clear the air…”

We missed you on the charts last week, damn, that’s right you wasn’t there

If se-sexy never left, then why’s everybody on my shi-it-it

Don’t hate on me just because you didn’t come up with it

So if you see us in the club, go on and walk the other way

Cause our run will never be over, not at least until we say

– Timbaland feat. Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake

I got up early Saturday morning wanting a huge plate of breakfast food. I pulled back the vertical blinds. The sun was shining, it was gorgeous out, and I was running low on quite a few make-up items. The decision was made – I was spending the day walking around downtown. Read More

Hope dangles on a string like slow spinning redemption

Winding in and winding out, the shine of it has caught my eye

And roped me in, so mesmerizing and so hypnotizing

I am captivated, I am

Vindicated, I am selfish, I am wrong, I am right

I swear I’m right, swear I knew it all along

And I am flawed but I am cleaning up so well

I am seeing in me now the things you swore, you saw yourself

Material Girl

Living in a material world

And I am a material girl

You know that we are living in a material world

And I am a material girl

– Madonna

I wrote a list of 30 things I was thankful for during 2012. Everyone was doing it that year. You know, the really annoying “thankful-for-a-day” bit all over Facebook. So, I decided to add my thirty cents too – just without the stupid daily part. Read More

And we’ll never be royals

It don’t run in our blood

That kind of luxe just ain’t for us

We crave a different kind of buzz

Let me be your ruler

You can call me queen Bee

And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule

Let me live that fantasy

– Lorde

I Am The Highway
Posted 10 April 2014 / By MC / Archives/ Featured/ Materialistic Girl/ Shenanigans

I am not your rolling wheels

I am the highway

I am not your carpet ride

I am the sky

I am not your blowing wind

I am the lightning

I am not your autumn moon

I am the night

The night

– Audioslave

I sat in a back booth at McDonald’s watching the rain come down.

I thought about that Bible I saw resting on the dash of that woman’s van.

I remembered the last words I said aloud before I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep – just hours ago.

“Dear Lord, please keep my family, friends, and loved ones healthy, happy, and safe. Amen.”

Tears filled my eyes as I wondered who had prayed for me. Read More

Big Girls Don’t Cry

I hope you know, I hope you know

That this has nothing to do with you

It’s personal, myself and I

We’ve got some straightenin’ out to do

And I’m gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket

But I’ve got to get a move on with my life

It’s time to be a big girl now

And big girls don’t cry

– Fergie

Mr. Big spends most weekend evenings at my house. It’s okay, I guess. I mean, I would rather us hang out at my place, you know, for the usual reasons: I typically have more food, I don’t have to pack a bag, Sonny is more comfortable here, it smells better at my house, and I don’t have to squat when I pee. Our time together is usually alright, you know, for the most part “normal.” We’ll cook dinner and watch a movie, or go out, or fight over what to watch on TV. But it never fails, each time Big stays over we always run into the same problem – I’ve got a queen-size bed. Read More

Just To See You Smile
Posted 1 October 2013 / By MC / Archives/ Materialistic Girl/ The Apple Doesn't Fall Far...

Just to see you smile

I’d do anything that you wanted me to

When all is said and done

I’d never count the cost

It’s worth all that’s lost

Just to see you smile

– Tim McGraw

At first, I wasn’t sure what to get Momma for her birthday.

It’s not that I don’t know her taste, it’s just… well, I couldn’t really think of anything she needed. And all of us just have so much stuff.

I am so tired of giving people stuff. Read More

As Long As You Love Me

I don’t care who you are

Where you’re from

What you did

As long as you love me

Who you are

Where you’re from

Don’t care what you did

As long as you love me

– Backstreet Boys

Have you ever had one of those moments when you actually feel pieces of your life click together? You know those moments? A moment when everything kind of goes in slow motion and you are granted just a split-second to watch it all come together before life starts whirling around you again. Well, I had one of those a couple of weeks ago, Ballas.

Just four weeks ago most of my tween dreams came true right before my eyes… Read More

Here I Go Again

An’ here I go again on my own

Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known,

Like a drifter I was born to walk alone

An’ I’ve made up my mind

I ain’t wasting no more time

– Whitesnake

I have not been honest with you, Ballas.

I have been keeping a huge, humongous secret.

A secret so very big I am almost bursting at the seams to blurt it out every chance I get.

And finally… Read More
